Frequently Asked Questions

What is PPP and why does it matter for salaries?

Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) adjusts salaries for differences in cost of living between countries. A $50k salary in the US and a $50k salary in Brazil have very different real values because prices for housing, food, and services differ dramatically. PPP tells you how much you'd need in another country to maintain the same lifestyle.

Where do the PPP factors come from?

This tool uses 2024 World Bank PPP factors: BRL 2.50, USD 1.00, EUR 0.78. These are simplified mid-market values for estimation purposes. Actual PPP varies by expenditure category (housing vs food vs services).

Is my salary data stored or sent anywhere?

No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser. Salary amounts and country selections are never transmitted to any server.

Can I use this for remote work compensation negotiations?

PPP is a useful starting point, but remote work compensation also depends on tax treaties, social security contributions, local regulations, and employer policies. Some companies use geographic pay bands rather than pure PPP.
