Maker vs Taker

Every fill on an exchange is either made (your limit order waits on the book until someone else hits it) or taken (your aggressive order immediately consumes a resting order). Exchanges charge less for makers because they supply liquidity, and more for takers because they consume it. The same trade can cost very different amounts depending on how you enter it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between maker and taker?

A maker is a limit order that rests on the order book and adds liquidity; it gets filled later at your limit price or better. A taker is a market (or aggressive) order that fills immediately against existing orders and removes liquidity. Makers are rewarded with lower fees; takers pay the higher rate for instant execution.

Are these rates current?

They are the standard base tiers as commonly published, and exchanges change them from time to time. Use them as a planning estimate and check the exchange's official fee schedule before placing real trades.

Why do fees differ by exchange?

Each exchange balances revenue against liquidity. High-volume venues like Binance and Bybit compete with low base rates; smaller or US-regulated platforms like Coinbase charge more. Fee schedules also differ between spot and futures because futures market makers take on margin and funding risk.

Do BNB discounts apply here?

No. This calculator uses plain base rates only. If you hold BNB on Binance and enable the fee discount, your actual fee is about 25% lower than what is shown. Loyalty, VIP and token discounts are not included.
