We compute age using calendar-aware math: full calendar years first, then remaining whole months, then remaining days. This accounts for leap years and varying month lengths automatically.
The Chinese zodiac is determined by the lunar New Year date. If you were born before Lunar New Year in your birth year, your zodiac sign belongs to the previous year. We use the lunar New Year dates for 1940–2030 to handle this correctly.

The calculator works from whole calendar dates, not your time of birth, so hours are simply days lived times 24. That is deliberate — real hour precision would need a birth hour, and the tool never asks for one.
