How It Works

This is a figlet renderer, and the trick is a character map: every allowed source character carries its own stack of six or eight template lines in the font file. To build a banner, the engine walks your text character by character and pastes each character’s block onto the growing output, one column at a time — a "H" is not a shape, it is a slice of the letter H in every line of the font. Three classic figlet fonts (Standard, Big and Slant) are bundled with this page, so nothing is fetched at runtime.

Plain text goes everywhere

The output is ordinary characters — it survives copy-paste into code comments, READMEs, terminal motd files and markdown fences. Markdown and chat apps just need the banner inside a monospace block (three-backtick fences in Discord, Reddit and GitHub) because proportional fonts scramble the column alignment that the art relies on.

Smushing and layout

Real figlet can "smush" adjacent letter blocks together to tighten kerning, and this tool renders with default settings — letters may lean on each other slightly, which is part of the classic look. The trim option simply strips leading and trailing whitespace rows and columns for a cleaner paste.

Font licenses

The font layouts come from the figlet project (figlet.js ships them under permissive terms, with the classic Standard font dating back to 1991 arrangements). Generated output is plain text you can use anywhere — there is nothing to attribute for a README header.
